This afternoon, Microsoft announced the discovery of a massive critical security flaw in all versions of Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Of course, they discovered it SIX MONTHS AGO. But as Ive said in this space before, Microsofts security strategy has always seemed to be 1) release crappy software, and then 2) wait for hackers to find the flaws in the code and wreak havoc through massive exploits, then 3) release a patch and act like theyre upgrading your OS somehow.

And as Ive said before, its win-win situation. Except for the users.

Anyway. Go here to get the security patch and protect yourself. The time from from discovery-to-exploit of Windows vulnerabilities has declined over the past 12 monthfrom a matter of months to a matter of days. It wont be long before the Next Horrible Virus rolls around to exploit this product flaw.
