staring at the sun
As I write this, a mass of seething plasma and magnetic fields ejected from the Suns corona is nearing the Earth. It came blasting out of a cluster of sun-spots that has migrated across the face of the sun to face the earth. As it passes, it will interfere with satellites and power grids. And hopefully cell-phones. For absolutely amazing pictures of current activity on the Sun (and theres lots of it right now), check out NASAs SOHO site. Its soothing, somehow, to think that while we go about our complicated day-to-day lives and jobs, trying to keep everything in balance, stay sane, have some friends, and do a little good, that someone is watching the Sun. The Sun makes up 99.8% of the mass of the entire solar system. Its on fire. Its very, very feisty. It could kill us all. So, rock on, NASA! Keep watching the Sun!
